About Me:
I have served as the youth minister of Brentwood United Methodist Church for six years before becoming the Executive Director of the Center for Youth Ministry Training in 2006. I continue to serve as one of Brentwood's associate ministers. I have served youth ministries with 12 to 450 active youth since 1993. I am one of the Co-author's(with 2 other YWN memebers) of Now What? Next Steps in Your New Life with Christ and regularly write for Barefoot Ministries. I am also a youth ministry consultant with Youth Ministry Architects.

Deech is a graduate of Lambuth University and Memphis Theological Seminary and lives in Brentwood, Tennessee.

When I am not directing the CYMT, working with the youth at Brentwood, speaking at youth events, helping build new youth ministries, or training other youth workers, I enjoy spending time with my wife Keeley, daughter Carlisle, and dog Bear

You can learn about my daughter Carlisle's adventures at www.carlisledrew.blogspot.com.
Here are a few of my favorite ministries. Maybe because I work for all of them.

Holiday Procrastination Disease

Thanksgiving was a wonderful time with family. I love having 4 days off. I even pulled off not taking my computer this weekend. But now its Monday and I'm realizing that I have and think I usually get Holiday Procrastination Disease. I'm wondering if this is a common thing for youth ministers and secular world employees alike, unique to church workers, or just to me. I notice that my CYMT students are counting the number of youth meetings (and classes left). Thanksgiving break just brings on the… Continue

Daddy Deech

My wife is out of town this weekend and so I am keeping our daughter Carlisle by myself. This is my first multiple day adventure as a single dad. I have so much respect for mom's and dad's who stay home with their kids all the time. I'm reminded how important it is for me to come home and give my wife a break. It is hard to stay on all the time. A short afternoon nap doesn't provide much time to do anything either. I am grateful and feel blessed that my wife is able to stay home with our daug…

Youth Workers Network - Yeah!

I must say that I am excited about the Youth Workers Network. Youth Workers need a place to connect with other youth workers. I can't wait to get my friends signed up - near and far. I love myspace and facebook for connecting with my kids, but this gives us a place to talk and share with each other. I look forward to connecting with those of you I know and meeting those who I don't!

I was glad that Kirk invited me! I know it will be a great encouragement!

Seminary is frustrating, and New England is crazy, but that's why I'm here. I'm learning so much and feeling more and more sure of my calling and that I'm in the right place. But I'll definitely be back South after graduation next year! I'm actually going to be at Lakeshore this summer serving as pastor to the staff.

Hey, tell Steve "Hi." How are your conversations going? How's work on "standards" going. I still wanna get together with you and Mark at some point.

Take care,
Mike

Yep, that's me--moved here to Lakeland Jan. of 2007 after 10 years in Murfreesboro. Guy by the name of Brett Hillesheim took my place last April. I know Steve Schneeberger very well and am currently working with his YMI as a mentor/coach. I see you guys are still putting up with Trey Carey--you need LOTS of prayers!! I'll send this link out to our UM facebook page for FL youth workers.

yeah, I talked to Jathaniel about it especially since he's in seminary, but he doesn't know if that is his calling...which I totally understand and respect.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Still getting to know people in my area, but will be sure to pass on the word about this site.

Keeley could probably work it out for Amy to meet some of the girls in the other BS so that its not as intimidating. We want to find her a place. Did the kids like choir?

Hey, we came to Brentwood tonight. I didn't come to your guys group though because Amy didn't go to the women group, so I didn't want her to go to the worship service by herself, so we went together. I will probably come next week though.
